Meet Marvin
Marvin is a 4th grader at Royal Oaks Elementary who is fun-loving, enjoys soccer and loves to make people smile. Marvin has been enrolled with Communities In Schools for over 2 years and started the journey with his Student Support Specialist, Meredith Allen, in 2nd grade. He was referred to Ms. Allen for academic motivation and social emotional needs that arose due to some stress in his home life. In the 2+ years Meredith has worked with Marvin, he has made great strides. Marvin shows up for online class every morning and works hard for his teachers. He also attends intervention sessions with his teacher to help him get caught up in reading and math.
Throughout the pandemic, Meredith has been able to check in on Marvin’s family using the app Talking Points, which translates Spanish to English to help the family communicate their needs to Meredith. As a result, Communities In Schools has helped the family with food resources, hygiene packs, and connections to local community resources. And the strong relationship between Meredith and Marvin’s family has helped keep Marvin engaged during virtual learning.
“Marvin has been through so much…but he is learning to be resilient. He’s an inspiration!”
Meredith Allen says, “Marvin is a child who has been through so much stress at such a young age, but through hard work and by building trusting relationships with me and with his teachers, he is learning to be resilient. He’s an inspiration!”
Meredith & Marvin celebrate his goal achievements!
