Nassair Goldin has always set his sights high, even when he did not know the exact steps to get to his goals. Now as a senior at Southview High School in Cumberland County, and the state President for Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates (JNCG) Career Association, he can look back and see that path. It all started with Dr. Margaret Brown, the JNCG College & Career Specialist at JNCG who saw his potential, and encouraged him to join the JNCG class. “She brought me into the classroom. She gave me a tour, and I’ve been in love ever since,” says Nassair.
Dr. Brown motivates Nassair and reminds him to always do his best, and be his best. Through this support, Nassair grew from a student to a leader in the classroom and the program as a whole. He served as President of his school’s JNCG program and was elected to serve as President of the state program. For Nassair, that was always the goal: “When I came in, I told myself, I’m going to run for president. While campaigning, I learned about all of the benefits and truly fell in love with the program,” says Nassair. Since then, he has embraced the role, mentoring classmates and fellow students while championing the work of JNCG statewide.
One of his favorite parts of the program is his Specialist Dr. Brown. “She’s one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She cares about all her students with her whole heart. She just really cares. She puts her best foot forward for everybody, and she’s an amazing specialist.” Nassair says about Dr. Brown.
Nassair has kept his sights high and has been accepted into Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he plans to earn his medical doctorate through the Army Medical program. He says JNCG and his specialist, Dr. Brown, helped guide him through the application process at Howard, which led to his acceptance. Once he finishes his tour as an army doctor, Nassair plans to specialize in pediatric neurosurgery.
As Nassair prepares to walk across the stage for his diploma and into the next stage of his life, he has this message to his fellow graduates: “Be ready, be great. Let’s leave a good legacy like those who have come before us. Let’s go out into the world and make it a better place.”
