About Communities In Schools of North Carolina
Established in 1989, Communities In Schools of North Carolina is part of the national Communities In Schools network. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
At Communities In Schools of North Carolina, we are “all in” for kids. It is not just our mission, it’s our passion.
Did you know that 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 lives in poverty, leading to challenges outside the classroom that stand in the way of success inside the classroom?
That’s why Communities In Schools goes “all in” using a comprehensive approach tailored to individual student needs, situations, talents and abilities. We work directly inside schools, using our CIS Model Program to serve students grades K-12. By building one-on-one relationships and wrapping students in supports and resources, we empower them to reach their potential and succeed at school and in life. Our CIS Model programming extends beyond the traditional classroom with our Reentry to Resilience program that serves youth transitioning from Youth Development Centers back into their communities and schools. Our Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates Program targets youth in grades 11 and 12 and provides small group supports for students moving on to work after high school. We’re putting today’s students on the path to tomorrow’s opportunities.
