“I haven’t taken a class like this before and it’s something that really helped me.” says Trevon Brown, a senior CIS Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates (JNCG) student. “It taught me a lot about jobs and applying for college. I hadn’t had any advice on that.”
Trevon moved to the Robeson County area from Georgia about two years ago and was recommended to join CIS for his final semester of high school. Kendall Morrison, JNCG College & Career Specialist, says that “While Trevon is naturally shy, his personable and respectful demeanor stood out. The program has given him an environment to work on his communication skills, goal setting, and prepare for a career.”
JNCG has helped Trevon explore career opportunities and figure out a plan after graduation. “I plan on going to Robeson Community College for two years, and then I want to go to Fayetteville State to study criminal justice.”
Trevon plans on following his childhood dream of joining law enforcement. “I really want to become a police officer. That’s something I always wanted to be when I was younger.”
Over the past semester, Trevon has grown from a shy student to a class leader who is known for being trustworthy. He is a positive presence in the classroom amongst his peers and the wider, his school community.
Trevon has grown significantly thanks to the skills learned in Mr. Morrison’s class and hopes other students take advantage of the opportunity and join. “It’s a really good class to be a part of, it has taught me a lot about myself and what I want for my future.”
