Meet Trevon

Trevon Brown

“I haven’t taken a class like this before and it’s really something that helped me.” says Trevon Brown, a senior at Purnell Swett High School in Robeson County. He is a student in Kendall Morrison’s Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates (JNCG) classroom. “It taught me a lot about jobs and applying for college. I hadn’t had any advice on that.”

Trevon moved to the Robeson County area from Georgia about two years ago and was recommended to Communities In Schools of North Carolina’s JNCG programs for his final semester of high school. Morrison says that “While Trevon is naturally shy, his personable and respectful demeanor stood out,” and that the program has given him an environment to work on communication skills, goal setting, and career readiness.

JNCG has helped Trevon explore career opportunities and figure out a plan after graduation. “I plan on going to Robeson Community College for two years, and then I want to go to Fayetteville State because I really like criminal justice.”

Trevon plans on following his childhood dream, “I really do want to be a police officer. That’s always something I wanted to be when I was younger.”

Over the past semester, Trevon has grown from a shy student to a class leader who is known for being trustworthy, becoming a positive presence in the classroom and the wider school community.

Trevon has grown significantly thanks to being part of Morrison’s class and says others would benefit like he did. “It’s a really good class, he said, it taught me a lot.”
