A Powerful Community of Student-Focused Experts
Each CIS affiliate in North Carolina employs on-site Student Support Specialist(s) who work and live in the same communities as the schools they serve, another important factor that ensures student relationships can flourish. Each CIS affiliate is an independent nonprofit operating with the same mission to bring support and resources to schools in their community by:
- Matching local, state and national resources with the needs of students in their districts
- Partnering with local school district leadership to identify where CIS can serve them best
- Hiring and training community based on-site CIS staff for each school they serve
- Connecting schools, students and families and mobilizing community resources when they are needed
- Creating a trusted local relationship with students to remove barriers to learning
- Providing high-quality on-site programming to ensure school and student goals are met

Communities In Schools is a national organization whose strength is bolstered by its network of independent non-profit CIS affiliates who share the values that center on empowering students at school and after graduation.
Championed by national and state CIS organizations, each of our 17 CIS affiliates uses a robust portfolio of best practices, proven interventions, and quality programs. Every young person matters to us. Our affiliates work together, learning from each other to ensure students are surrounded with all the supports they need to succeed and thrive.
We build relationships community by community, school by school, and student by student. Our most important resource is our network of 17 independently operated affiliates in communities across the state of North Carolina.
