Bridging relationships between schools, students & the community.

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

We build strong, trusted relationships with students, youth, and their parents, ensuring they have the relationships and resources they need to succeed and thrive. Years of research resulted in evidence-based supports, services and interventions proven to deliver positive outcomes. We are “all in” for the students and families we serve, doing whatever it takes for them to overcome challenges and barriers in the way of their success.

Established in 1989 as part of the national Communities In Schools network, Communities In Schools of North Carolina supports 17 independent CIS affiliates across the state with training, technical assistance, and coaching. Our network approach harnesses the power of community connections at national and state levels, while local affiliates connect children, families and schools to public and private sector resources in their communities. Beyond network support, CISNC hires and trains CIS Student Support Specialists to work in Title 1 and low-performing schools in districts without a local CIS organization. True to our mission, we surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Across the state, Communities In Schools of North Carolina is having an impact. Our success reflects our behaviors, principles, and practices that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.

“A great program simply creates the environment for healthy relationships to form between adults and children. Young people thrive when adults care about them on a one-to-one level, and when they also have a sense of belonging to a caring community.”
