Marvin Price serves students and community every day as an advisory board member for Communities In Schools of Cumberland County and as the Director of Strategic Community Initiatives at Fayetteville Technical Community College.
A North Carolina native Marvin grew up in the small city of Dunn and attended Fayetteville State University. He was the first of his family to graduate from college, attending on a football scholarship as he studied psychology and soon, he will earn the title of ‘doctor’ as he works on his doctoral dissertation.
“I think our board is unique in that in that sense that we come from different pockets of our community. We bring different opinions and suggestions to the table and we kind of work through those things”
Marvin has enjoyed his work on the board and working alongside different members of the wider Cumberland community with the mission of providing support to students. “And I think with the resources that we’re able to provide in our schools through CIS, we’re there, we’re ready and we’re prepared to help students get there.”
When not in board meetings or organizing initiatives at Fayetteville Tech Marvin likes to enjoy the great outdoors. He and his daughter enjoy going on hikes, visiting museums and historical sites.
“It’s grounding to me for me. So anytime I have the opportunity to kind of slow down and kind of. Take a deep breath and have a chance to admire nature, and I take every opportunity.”
