Where and when is the conference?
The conference will be virtual on Zoom Webinar and Zoom Meeting on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16, 2020.
What are you looking for?
We are looking for high-quality engaging presentations by a diverse group of presenters.
We are looking for presentations that educate our student support specialists/site coordinators to work more effectively to achieve even greater positive outcomes with their students and families, focusing on strategies related to Developmental Relationships; Attendance, Behavior, Coursework and Parent Engagement; College and Career Readiness; Social Emotional Learning; Engaging Students in a Virtual Environment; Family Engagement; Evidence-Based Interventions; and ways to advance innovation. At this time, we do not know how many schools will be virtual and how many will be in person. Therefore, it may be needed that the content is focused toward a virtual environment.
We are looking for presentations that support all staff in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and all areas of leadership skills including resilience, time management, coaching and creating a culture of philanthropy.
We are looking for presentations that integrate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is central to our work at CIS.
We are looking for presentations that also integrate Developmental Relationships. The Search Institute has identified five elements—expressed in 20 specific actions—that make relationships powerful in young people’s lives. Who attends the conference?
Attendees will be from the Communities In Schools network across North Carolina. Student Support Specialists will be the largest group of attendees. Student Support Specialists provide the core of our services with site-based supports to our students, their families and our communities. They are Responsible for overall planning and managing of Communities In Schools (CIS) operations at the schools in the implementation of the CIS model of integrated student supports.
Executive Directors, Program Directors, Board Members and other staff also attend.
How do you define “engaging presentation.”
All presentations will be held virtually on Zoom Meetings. We are not interested in presenters that talk at the participants for the entire time. Our expectation is that presenters will be engaging participants through different Zoom tools (such as the chat box, reaction buttons, breakout rooms), videos or other virtual tools.
However, please don’t let the virtual/online platform deter you from applying, we are to here support you! There will be a dress rehearsal with feedback prior to the conference. Each session will have a “CIS Zoom Producer/Assistant” assisting you in your session that you will practice with ahead.
Are you offering an honorarium?
We will be offering a $200 honorarium to our community-based presenters as a token of our appreciation. It is our expectation our CIS network presenters will be creating their presentations during their CIS work time. Please know that your participation will be greatly appreciated and will positively impact students across our state.
How long should our presentations be?
Presentations will be either be 60, 75 or 90 minutes long.
When are the presenter applications due?
Please apply to present no later then September 7. However, I would encourage you to applier earlier if possible. A committee made up from representatives from the CIS network will be reviewing the applications. You should receive a response regarding your application no later then September 18, 2020.
