Position Overview:
The Reentry to Resilience (R2R) Program with Communities In Schools of North Carolina is seeking to add a Youth Success Coach to our team. R2R works with youth / young adults who committed to and are released from Cabarrus, Edgecombe, Chatham, or Lenoir Youth Development Centers (YDC). The Youth Success Coach will begin to work with justice-involved youth/young adults upon commitment to the YDC and will case manage support structure for youth returning back to their respective communities. Prior to release, the Youth Success Coach will work with families and schools to prepare a successful reentry plan/strategy for the youth/young adult.
The Youth Success Coach will work in the Youth Development Centers with staff and families, attending service planning meetings for each youth/young adult at least once per month. Post-release, the Youth Success Coach will ensure that the Transition Intervention Plan is implemented, and that the youth/young adult has successfully reentered back into their respective schools and/or is gainfully employed. In addition, the Youth Success Coach will support the youth and family’s therapeutic services as recommended by the risk-needs assessment, as facilitated by Juvenile Court Counselors.
More specifically, the YSC will encourage academic, physical, and social-emotional growth; discourage involvement in gang or anti-social activities and offer school-based opportunities for engagement in pro-social/positive activities that promote cognitive and behavioral change in all settings. Must have an advocate mindset and not be afraid to work with this population. Travel is required. Some service planning meetings are held virtually, but most are held in-person at the YDCs, and must be attended. May have to attend court for hearings regarding the youth / young adult. Must also be willing to visit youth at home and in the community. This is a grant-funded, timed position.
⦁Identify youth’s pre-release needs at the Youth Development Center (YDC) and utilize provided assessments to determine strengths/deficits in education, social, emotional, familial, physical to develop post-release support plan along with YDC staff.
Required Education/Experience:
⦁Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in the field of criminal justice, human services, social work, counseling, public administration or management related field.
⦁A minimum of 2 years of working experience in one of these areas.
⦁Experience working with the justice-involved youth / young adult population strongly preferred.
Necessary Skills:
⦁Strong interpersonal skills
⦁Self-motivated with the ability to make independent decisions
⦁Sensitivity and ability to appreciate points of view of personnel within the YDCs, schools, and other agencies/organizations, including a keen awareness of their needs and goals and how to build collaborative partnerships based upon fundamental CIS principles.
⦁Ability to acquire and maintain familiarity with all relevant resources
⦁Ability to be flexible in a work environment often filled with ambiguous situations
⦁Effective oral and written communication skills
⦁Professional presentation skills with both large and small groups
⦁Computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
⦁Ability to manage time, paperwork and people effectively
⦁A valid NC driver’s license
Preferred:
⦁Knowledge of youth behavioral issues/community programs and resources available
⦁Persons willing to develop supportive network of services for identified justice-involved youth
