President, Communities in Schools of Wake County

Communities in Schools of Wake County believes that we can change the feelings of despair that many children experience to feelings of hope for excellence that they can achieve. Communities in Schools of Wake County delivers evidence-based tutoring and academic support, caring adult educators and community volunteers, and community resources to motivated, economically at-risk students who face daily challenges of drugs, gangs, and other threats associated with poverty.

This position offers the opportunity to build upon the past success of the organization and the strong commitment of the community to see CIS of Wake County continue and grow in its capability to enable motivated students to be successful in school and in life.

The ideal candidate will be a leader capable of building relationships with community and education leaders and in leading fundraising activities; inspiring and motivating staff, board members, volunteers and donors; expanding evidence-based best practices related to enhancing student outcomes; serving as a good manager, active listener and a strong advocate for student achievement and support. Most importantly, the successful candidate will be passionate about the mission of CIS of Wake County and committed to the success of the students it serves.

The ideal candidate will also have past experience leading a performance and outcomes based organization and staff. Development experience and the knowledge to effectively run the business side of the organization while setting and implementing strategy is required.

Qualifications:

Advanced degree or equivalent experience, with at least 10 years of senior management experience;

Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff;

Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth, including through use of community partnerships

Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget

Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships

Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures

Communities in Schools of the Rocky Mount Region
Executive Director


The Nash/Rocky Mount Area Communities in Schools program (www.communities in schools.org/rockymount) is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic ED to oversee all aspects of this nationally recognized program. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Personnel management, program implementation and oversight, grant writing and fund raising and, most importantly, extensive community involvement. The ideal candidate will have leadership and fundraising experience, financial management experience, including creating and managing a $400,000 budget, and good communication and writing skills. Applicants with prior experience in administration of a non-profit agency or a background in education will be given primary consideration.
